How to Tour in a Band or Whatever

How to Tour in a Band or Whatever
by Thor Harris

1-Don’t Complain. Bitching, moaning, whining is tour cancer. If something is wrong fix it or shut the fuck up you fucking dick. goddamn.

2-If you fart, claim it.

3-Don’t Lose shit. Everybody loses shit. Don’t fucking do it. Asshole.

4-Don’t fuck anyone in the band. There are tons of people to fuck who are not in this band. Dumbass.

5-If you feel like shit all the time, drink less beer at the gig. You will play better & feel better. What are you… a child? Some have the endurance for self abuse. Most don’t.

6-Remember the soundman’s name. He will do a better job.

7- Eat oranges. Cures constipation & prevents colds.

8-Masturbate. Duh… Where & when? Be creative. You’re an artist right?

9-If YOU can’t carry your suitcase 3 blocks, it’s too goddamn big.

10-Respect public space in the van. Don’t clutter, you Fuck.

11-If you borrow something, return it. Not Fucked Up.

12-Do not let the promoter dick you or talk you out of the guarantee. If there were not enuf people there, it’s their fault.

13- Driver picks the music.

14-One navigator only (usually sitting shotgun). Everyone else shut the fuck up.

15-Soundcheck is for checking sounds. Shut the fuck up while everyone else is checking.

16-Don’t wander off. Let someone know where you are.

17-Clean up after yourself. What are you… a goddamn toddler?

18-Touring makes everyone bi-polar. Ride the waves as best you can and remember, moods pass. So don’t make any snap decisions or declarations when you are drunk or insane.

19-Fast food is Poison.

20-The guestlist is for friends, family & people you might want to fuck. Everyone else can pay. They have day jobs.

21- Don’t evaluate your whole life while you’re sitting in a janitor closet waiting to go on. You think you’re above having shitty days at work? Shut up & do your goddamn job.

This list was written under the influence of lots of esspresso & anti-depressants while on tour w/ such greats as Shearwater, Swans, Smog, Lisa Germano, Angels of Light, Bill Callahan & many more. I hope this list will help you get along w/ your co-workers whatever your job is. Contributions to the list by Jordan Geiger, Kimberly Burke, Brian Orloff, Brian Phillips Celebrity Gang Bang, Kevin Schneider, Jonathan Meiburg, Michael Gira and some other folks.

Thanks for not being an asshole, Thor Harris

The Death Penalty.

The Death Penalty
By Victor Hugo

Gentlemen of the Jury,

If there is a culprit here, It is not my son, It is myself. It is I, Who for these twenty-four years have opposed capital punishment, Have contended for the inviolability of human life, Have committed this crime to which my son is now arraigned. Here, I denounce myself, Mr. Advocate General, I have committed it under all aggravate circumstances, Deliberately, Repeatedly, Tenaciously. Yes, This old and absurd "Lex Talionis", this law of blood, I have combated all my life, All my life!

Gentlemen of the Jury, while I have breath, I will continue to combat it by all my efforts as a writer, by all my words and all my votes as a legislator. I declare it before the crucifix! Before that victim of the penalty of death, Who sees and hears us, Before that gibbet to which two thousand years ago, For the eternal instruction of the generations, The human law nailed the Divine!

In all that my son has written on the subject of capital punishment, And for writing and publishing that for which he is now on trial. In all that he has written, He has merely proclaimed the sentiments with which from his infancy, I have inspired him.

Gentlemen, Jurors, The right to criticize a law, And to criticize it severely, Especially a penal law, Is placed beside the duty of amelioration. Like the torch beside the work under the artisan's hand. The right of the journalist is as sacred, As necessary, As imprescriptible.

What are the circumstances? A man, A convict, A sentenced wretch. Is dragged on to a certain morning to one of our public squares. There he finds the scaffold!

He shudders, He struggles, He refuses to die! The victim clings on to the scaffold and shrieks for pardon, His clothes are torn, His shoulders bloody. Still he resists!

They drag him forth, Haggard... Bloody... Weeping, Pleading, Howling for life, Calling upon God, Calling upon his father and mother. For like a very child has this man become in the prospect of death. They drag him forth to the execution. He is hoisted on the scaffold and his head falls! And through our very conscience runs a shudder. Never has a legal murder appeared with an aspect so indecent, So abominable. All feel jointly implicated in his death. It is at this very moment that from a young man's breast escapes a cry, Wrung from his very heart, A cry of pity and of anguish. A cry of horror... A cry of humanity. And this cry you would punish?!

And in the face of the appalling facts which I have narrated, You would say to the guillotine, "Thou art right!". And to Pity, Saintly pity, "Thou art wrong!".

Gentlemen of the Jury, It cannot be! Gentlemen, I have finished.

Thank you.

Train Wreck.

My body feels like a freaking train wreck.
Much like the train at the end of the movie "Unstoppable".

You wanna know what I did today?

I did...
50 squat-thrusts,
20 reps of mountain climbing,
25 reps of bottoms up,
20 4-count push-ups,
20 8-count push-ups,
35 scissor kicks,
25 flutter kicks,
20 reverse flutter kicks,
150 jumping jacks,
150 crunches,
And 10 minutes of jogging and sprinting.
While going up to the 7th floor,
Down to the ground.

And a lot more of different exercises that I forgot the names of.
And I'm kinda scared if I actually remembered them.

But still, I did the effort of posting this totally effortless post.
Coz that's how much I love my blog. :>

OUCHHHHHHHH.
